Morris Dancing in the Garden: The Jolly Boys

Saturday 5 September | 3pm 📍 Garden & Courtyard 🎟 Free entry

We’re delighted to welcome The Jolly Boys to the brewery garden for an afternoon of traditional Morris dancing, joyful noise, and old-school English folk fun.

Hailing from Kent, The Jolly Boys describe themselves (very accurately) as “a drinking side with a dancing problem.” They’re one of the UK’s premier touring Morris sides and are currently on a jolly jaunt around the region - and we’re lucky enough to be one of their stops. Expect singing, sticks, bells, big energy, and appearances from their mascot, Duck 🦆

What is Morris Dancing?

Morris dance is a traditional English folk dance known for its rhythmic stepping, lively figures, and unmistakable bell pads worn on the dancers’ shins. Dancers may wield sticks, swords, or handkerchiefs, all accompanied by live music and plenty of character.

The tradition dates back over 500 years , with the earliest written reference appearing in 1448 . Originally performed in royal courts and later embraced by villages and parishes, Morris dancing has evolved into a vibrant, community-led folk tradition that’s still very much alive today - and often best enjoyed outdoors with a drink in hand.
